The central business district of Las Vegas, Downtown Las Vegas was the original town site and gambling district of the city prior to the development of the Las Vegas Strip. Still incorporating gaming facilities, Downtown Las Vegas is the urban core of the valley, featuring a variety of hotel and business high-rises, cultural centers, historic buildings and government institutions as well as residential and retail developments. Located just north of the Las Vegas Strip, Downtown Las Vegas centers on Fremont Street, the Fremont Street Experience and Fremont East and is bounded by I-15 on the west, Washington Avenue on the north, Maryland Parkway on the east and Sahara Avenue on the south.
