The Nevada Ballet Theatre - The Nutcracker
When the mixed-use Symphony Park opened in March 2012 in Downtown Las Vegas, The Smith Center for the Performing Arts was installed as its centerpiece. This world-class performing arts center presents a broad range of first-rate programming and enables Southern Nevada to participate on the international stage, celebrating artistic excellence, education and culture from around the world. The Smith Center at Symphony Park is home of the Las Vegas Philharmonic and Nevada Ballet Theatre and consists of three theaters in two buildings. Featuring a 17-story carillon tower with 47 bells, The Smith Center features a Neo Art Deco design style, which was chosen by David M. Schwarz to echo the design elements of Hoover Dam, another architectural tour de force in Nevada. THE NUTCRACKER Featuring a full orchestra and larger-than-life landscapes, Nevada Ballet Theatre’s production of The Nutcracker has been hailed by the Las Vegas Sun as “the most visually beautiful production ever staged in Reynolds Hall.” Each year, artistic director James Canfield transforms the theater into a wonderland of moonlit snow and waltzing flowers as Clara and her Nutcracker Prince dance along the borderline of imagination and reality.
