Landmarks, Parks and Monuments
As a city that developed doubly as a maritime center and an outpost during the 1849 Gold Rush, San Francisco boasts many historic structures, landmarks and monuments. In addition, one of the most iconic landmarks is the famous Golden Gate Bridge, which spans the bay and connects the city to parts north. Also known as a region ideal for the outdoorsy set, the area's many parks and beaches are also a significant component of the city.
